Glossary:
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of COUNTRY
Each week in assembly and at other gatherings we acknowledge the Gadigal
people of the Eora Nation who are the traditional custodians of this
land.
AP
Assistant Principal of which we have 4 at our school. Assistant Principals
form part of the school executive together with the principal.
ASSEMBLY
Held every Thursday morning at 9.30am in the hall for the whole school.
Each week a different class runs the assembly and presents an item.
Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend to celebrate a sense
of community and the effort and achievements of children.
BOOK WEEK
In term 3 we celebrate Book Week with a character parade down Darling
St. We invite authors, storytellers and illustrators to be part of
our celebrations.
CONNECTED
CLASSROOM
A classroom in the school which is equiped with a large television, interactive
whiteboard and video conferencing facilities. This will allow video conferencing
between schools throughout New South Wales, further enhancing children's
learning as well as providing opportunities for teacher's professional
development.
EDUCATION
WEEK
Education Week is usually held in Term2 and we hold a special assembly,
open classrooms and other activities to promote the wonderful institution
of Public Education.
EXPERTS
in RESIDENCE
During the year we invite experts in a sporting/cultural field in to
team teach with our staff and expose the children to best practice in
a certain area.
HARMONY
DAY
A special day in March to celebrate inclusivity and diversity in our
school and the world. The Harmony Day assembly and morning tea is a special
event and children wear orange on this day.
HIP
Help Increase the Peace program
A whole-school approach to embracing diversity and fostering connectedness through
social skills and conflict resolution.
ICT
Information and Communication Technology
The school integrates ICT into Key Learning Areas and is fortunate to
have interactive whiteboards within the classrooms to facilitate and
enhance this process.
INCURSIONS & EXCURSIONS
Each term there will be a visiting show/speaker to complement what is
being taught and investigated in KLAs
Each year children go on outings with their class or stage as part of
their curriculum studies.

MATHLETICS
and SPELLODROME
Web-based Maths and Spelling Programs in which children can participate
and compete against others around the world; they can do this both at
school and at home.
MORNING
LINES
At Rozelle our morning lines are an important part of the morning ritual
whereby the school leaders and staff make announcements and acknowledge
effort and initiatives.
MOTTO
The school motto is Live Love Learn and is part of the school crest and
complements our inclusive, restorative philosophy.
MUFTI Day
An out of uniform day and usually for fundraising (gold coin) purposes.
MUSICAL
Every year we participate in both a junior and senior musical.
NAIDOC
National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Commitment which is celebrated
each year in Term 2.
NEWSLETTER
The newsletter is emailed to parents/carers with a hard copy for those
without internet access.
NUDE FOOD
We encourage the children to bring their healthy lunch in a lunchbox
with minimal or no wrapping on the food to encourage waste reduction.
PARLIAMENT
The school has introduced a school parliament elected by the students
with a Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Cabinet ministers and
portfolios to oversee decision making.
P&C
The Parents and Citizens Association is the main fundraising arm of the
school and meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month in the staffroom
at 7.30pm.
PRESENTATION
DAY
Held in December to acknowledge the effort and achievements of children in all
areas.
RESTORATIVE PRACTICE
Our restorative classroom setting is one that values dialogue through
an inclusive approach where everyone expects to be heard. Through this
participatory process students develop the capacity to learn that emotions
are an important and legitimate expression of healthy dialogue. This
learning helps students to deal with conflict, tensions and difference
in respectful ways that engender trust and foster healthy relationships.
ROOSH
Rozelle Out of School Hours Program offering before and after school and vacation
care for children.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
The School Council is comprised of 2 parents, a staff member, an office
member, Principal and community member and is the body which oversees
policy and financial development. It meets once per term.
SCRIPTURE
Scripture or religious education is available to children once per week
if their parents/carers give permission.
SENIORS’ or
GRANDPARENTS’ DAY
Held
on or near Harmony Day assembly to acknowledge senior friends and grandparents
with an assembly and morning tea.
SRC
Student Representative Council
Two representatives from each class are elected by their peers each semester
to be part of the decision-making council or senate.
