Pegasus: - The Winged Horse
Mrs. Taryn Lynch - Stage 1

This term we have been studying the topic 'What's Alive.' We have been investigating how living things grow, reproduce, move, need air, take in nutrients and need energy to do things. We have done lots of science experiments in school where we have studied different invertebrates. We now know that an insect has to have three body parts (a head, thorax and abdomen) and six legs to be called an insect. Insects fall into the Invertebrates category, because they don’t have backbones. Other examples of invertebrates are worms, jellyfish and spiders. We have used magnifying glasses to study ants, spiders, earwigs, dragonflies and beetles.
We have also had an excursion to Taronga Zoo. It was so much fun getting to see the creatures and the environments about which we had been learning. Most of us liked the Meerkats and Pygmy Hippo the best! We also attended an exciting workshop called Insecta Inspectors, where we held Phasmids, looked at Funnel Web Spiders and went hunting for invertebrates in a garden, where we found hundreds!
